Today I'm hosting my good friend and author, Chrystalla Thoma with her new novel, Azure. Azure is a Contemporary New Adult Romance with a hint of paranormal, and is aimed at age 17+ (mature content - sex scenes are hot but not explicit).
A short blurb: Summer is almost over.
A terrible mistake haunts college student Olivia Spencer. To escape the past, she travels to the Mediterranean island of Crete, hoping for the courage to start anew.
By the sea, she meets sexy and enigmatic Kai. But there’s more to Kai than meets the eye — and nobody wants to talk about it. The locals shun him, accusing him of magic. Kai, apparently, belongs to the sea, no matter how crazy that sounds.
Kai isn’t free to be with her or live his own life, and this is how he will stay, unless Olivia can break his curse and save him — in doing so atoning for those she failed in the past.
Do you believe in mermaids and mermen?
The sea has always been close to my heart and features in many of my stories. The Greek sea — the Aegean of Greece in particular — is often wracked by violent storms and swept by strong winds in the late summer. Stories of gods and goddesses with fishtails have been around for what seems like forever — tritons and nereids haunting the waves and inhabiting the blue depths of the sea.
In later, historical times, the old form of the mermaid goddess was conflated with the Virgin, as protector of those at sea. Panagia Gorgona (The Mermaid Virgin) has been venerated on the islands of Greece, as for example on Mitilini (Lesvos), where she has a chapel and is portrayed with a fishtail and a trident, surrounded by dolphins and fish.
Chrystalla is Greek Cypriot (hence the strange name) and likes writing about bratty, angsty boys and spunky girls in fantasy and science-fiction worlds. She writes mainly for a young adult public but not only (heed the warnings!)
She's currently preparing a non-fiction book about dragons, because the truth must out, and is juggling two series ("Elei's Chronicles" and "Boreal and John Grey").

I can’t believe where this year has gone. Looking back through my records, it doesn't seem five minutes since the beginning of summer! The last five months have gone in a flash – summer’s disappeared and we’re now settling in with some fine autumn weather. Summer in Cyprus has been a hot affair this year, and for me at least the drop in temperatures from mid-ninety’s to mid-eighties is wonderful! Apart from a month’s stay in the UK in May/June I’ve been here for the duration, sweltering and trying to write!
Well, I must have achieved something, as this week sees the release of my latest novel, ‘Devil’s Brae’ the #1 in the new ‘Dark Minds’ series and I’m pretty excited about it! You seem to enjoy series and from your feedback I’ve taken all on board and started this one. For those of you who love the Diana Rivers series – don’t worry, a sixth book is already in progress, albeit at an early stage (5000 words written so far).
‘Devil’s Brae’ is a tense psychological thriller mystery suspense, set in the highlands of Scotland…
Imagine a warm autumn afternoon in a remote village in the Scottish Highlands. Cassandra Potter, fleeing from the memories of two traumatic deaths, goes walking alone on Devil’s Brae.
The wild country is empty, stretching for miles in every direction, it is then she sees him.
A dark brooding figure, standing and watching as Cassandra climbs the brae. Apart from a lingering uneasy feeling she ignores the watcher, until the next time and it is then she realises her mistake.
Someone wishes her gone from the village – at all costs.
Cassandra’s life is plunged into danger. Who is threatening her existence and her sanity? Who is the mysterious stranger? An inhabitant of the village of Inverdarroch? Or a person from her clouded past? Above all, why is this happening to her?
If you would like to read an excerpt from Devil’s Brae or check on the current special price, please click on the relevant Amazon link below. The first six chapters are there for you to sample. There is also an excerpt on this website.* See under the Crime section header.
All my books are also available on Barnes & Noble, KOBO and Apple.
My editor says she really enjoyed working with this novel, and gave it thumbs up immediately! So you can imagine how thrilled I am.
Finally, for those romantics among you, and in time for Christmas, I’ll be releasing, ‘On Christmas Hill’ – A Seasonal romance. Again this was a pleasure to write and I think it will be a hit. My romance book, A Very French Affair has been my BEST SELLER in the UK for the last four months – which has shown me I can write romance as well as mystery suspense!
I’ll let you know when this is on release.
Autumn and Winter are the months when we all like to curl up with a good book, so why not treat yourselves…
Happy reading everyone,
Love and peace to you all
Medical romance is in the air with Sam Archer's lovely romance, Questions of Trust.
I found the book to be a quick and easy read and perfect for a lazy weekend. Enjoy!
Chloe Edwards is a London journalist, with a baby son, and a shattered marriage. She moves to the Cotswold Hills in Gloucestershire, England and meets Dr Tom Carlyle, the local family doctor. He's everything she'd want in a new man - but she can't trust him. He's a doctor - and it was a doctor who was responsible for the death of her husband.
Dr Tom Carlyle has problems of his own. His ex-wife is making trouble and threatens to take their child away from him of whom Tom has custody.
An attraction springs up between Chloe and Tom, at the same time as frightening events occur.
I enjoyed this an easy to read - romantic novel, which is thrilling in parts and bitter-sweet in others. Well written with a minimum of grammatical mistakes. Recommended for those among us who love a good romance.
Thanks for dropping by and have a great weekend.
Today's featured author is my good friend, Sibel Hodge. Sibel has long been an active advocate of animal rights, and her latest book, The See-Through Leopard, is a tribute to the hard working people who are against animal poaching throughout this beautiful world of ours. I read her book recently and I think it warrants more attention. See for yourself by reading my review. The book is retailing at a very reasonable price - a proportion of the revenue from sales going to Panthera a charitable cause - see below.
The See-Through Leopard by Sibel Hodge is listed as YA/coming of age literature, but I think this book will have a much broader appeal, especially those among us who care about the planet, environment and all living animals. The subject matter is one which cannot fail to touch both your heart and spirit.
The story begins with a child woman of 16, Jazz.
Jazz has many problems: the loss of her mother in a fatal car accident and the horrific scars which deface both her body and spirit. Jazz also blames herself for her mother's death. Her father, who is a vet, takes up a new position where he is responsible for the well-being of the animals on a Kenyan game reserve. Both father and daughter move to Africa from the UK (against Jazz's agreement) and he hopes the change of life will bring Jazz out of the mire of grief, self-pity and depression she has fallen into.
Readers will find they are taken on an almost spiritual journey of the healing of mind and body, a beautiful adventure with an orphaned leopard cub and falling in love for the first time.
But for me, apart from the lovely story of Jazz and her raising of the orphaned leopard cub, Asha, there was the impassioned plea concerning the terrible truth of poaching endangered - or indeed any wild animal. As a lover of Africa and all things wildlife, this book touched me deeply. Sibel has done a fantastic job in raising awareness of the plight of African animals. Fuelled by the voracity and arrogance of the West, the misconceptions of the East and the abject poverty in Africa, animals are being heartlessly poached at a disturbing rate. A rate which cannot be allowed to continue.
Life on the African plains is realistically portrayed, danger, hunting, being chased by wild animals and watching a `kill'.
Sibel Hodge has highlighted how loving oneself focuses the return to recovery by turning the attention outwards. Jazz cares for the cub and after time finally realises she has healed and is at peace with herself. This is an uplifting story, despite some grueling topics.
At the end of the story, Jazz gives a heart rendering speech to an audience of conservationists, preservationists' World Wildlife Organisations et al. It is a passionate speech and covers everything one would expect at such an august meeting. At the end of the book Sibel Hodge has listed endangered wildlife statistics and contact information for wildlife organizations. We may have seen some of it all before, but it is reinforcing a call for everyone to sit up and take note. We have one planet, one earth - we need to share it, not rape it. Let's ensure we keep it.
Highly recommended for everyone.
"A percentage of the royalties from the sale of this book will be contributed to Panthera, a leading international conservation organization dedicated to protecting and preserving the world's big cats, plus other wildlife conservation groups." -- Sibel Hodge, Author
